Recommending an Investment Strategy

When we are clear on your desired financial goals and have a working plan, your portfolio and assets are managed accordingly. We establish both your short-term and longer-range investment strategies, paying particular attention to your risk tolerance, income requirements and capital gains tax liability.

Our approach to equity investing is multifaceted, combining valuation modeling with secondary research from the leading U.S. research organizations. Our asset allocation strategy is broadly based across markets, capitalizations and investment styles. Our collective 120 years of experience, our commitment to using nationally recognized, independent investment management resources and our disciplined investment process assist us in selecting the appropriate industry and market sectors. It has also given us a strategic bias toward being fully invested in our target allocations. Of course, we make tactical adjustments in asset allocation due to changes in capital market expectations or client preferences.

Generally, we recommend individual securities to maximize tax management flexibility. We believe in very broad-based equity diversification, seeking out other managers to provide expertise in market niches outside our own areas of expertise. This is particularly relevant in choosing specialized mutual funds or alternative investments.

We also have a disciplined approach to taxable fixed income and municipal portfolio holdings in order to minimize volatility and to assure that income needs are met. Only highly rated securities are used and these are managed to minimize interest rate risk and extreme market price volatility. We have special expertise with IRAs and tax-sensitive portfolio management of individual securities. Our investment professionals have extensive investment management experience with charitable trusts, as well as trusts for individuals.
